We have a barndoor in our midst

Saturday, February 7th, 2015

Dave acquired his new bus. A 1955 Barndoor Kombi. Whats particularly rare/unusual about this bus is that it has rear wind up and down windows. The windows look factory fit and it is believed that they were either done by VW themselves or a VW dealer as a period modification. The window mechs themselves are all contemporary to the bus sourced from a Oval window beetle. Odd and very cool!

Ian’s Early Bay

Wednesday, July 16th, 2014

Project brief for Ian’s bus was source an RHD early bay non Walktrhu Westy and customise to his exact requirements for his sons Birthday.

Main requirement was that is has to run and drive as close to a new car as possible. New engine, new modern loom, Disc brakes, new gearbox etc etc

Here are a few snaps thus far….

Bus sourced, looked fairly solid, had a few hidden nasties but nothing too serious.

Repair work begins

Skip a few weeks and bus is back painted in his custom colour code for his sons football team.

Note here a full custom smoothed dash and metal glove box lid.

4 inch narrowed beam, CSP disc brakes, 4.5 and 5.5 polished fuch, its getting there……

Interior wood work going in, solid wood throughout. Custom hand made tongue and groove from Iroko wood with Walnut inlay.

fitted pre oil

More pics soon 🙂

Barndoor in our midst

A few weeks back Dave acquired his new bus. A 1955 Barndoor Kombi. Whats particularly rare/unusual about this bus is that it has rear wind up and down windows. Heres a few pics from the day he collected it from Matt Smith in Cornwall and a little video of the RSVP driving it home.

Making its 2014 debut at the Volksworld show next year. Watch this space.

Dave’s 13 window Patina

Tuesday, December 10th, 2013

Dave bought this rather rusty but awesome looking Texan deluxe last year.

A bit of impulse buy but with paint like this how can you refuse right?

As the old girl arrived from the docks…

The odd rust issue and rats nest 😀

Work has finally started and the plan is to get her rolling for show season 2014

Watch this space.

Ben finally started last week sorting out the front lower nose repairs and replacing the cab floor.

Out with the old…..

and in with the new

The man at work himself. Young Benjamin. Ripped overalls and everything tut tut!!

Garys late bay

Friday, February 15th, 2013

Gary’s bay is in for a freshen up, sort out a few spots of rust here and there and then a full respray.

On first inspection a fairly sound UK bay, a few issues in the usual places, battery tray, cab floors etc etc.

worryingly as we delve a little deeper nasty bits start to appear!!

Lurking behind a large amount of filler was the original panel! A previous owner/body shop has put the repair panel directly on top of the original rusty metal!!

Thinking of buying a bus? Be careful! Gary’s looked pretty solid at a quick glance!

We are happy to look over any potential purchase with you within a 20 mile radius, get in touch at info@fellowsspeedshop.com

Gary’s 57

Wednesday, February 13th, 2013

Gary’s bus is in for a full EJ25 conversion but prior to installing the new Scooby motor we have been tasked with fixing a few little issues at the back of his bus!

Engine out and ready for blasting

Post blasting, looking much better! Now to inspect the damage!!

This poor old girl is a little infected with a quite server case of tin worm!!

Autocraft order made, watch this space for some prettier after shots!!

1964 RHD Notchback

Dan's 1964 Notchback. Pre-narrowing

This is Dan’s old 1964 Notchback. It’s one of only a few 1964 models to have an early style ‘push button’ dashboard.

The car was completely stock when it was bought having had a sympathetic mini restoration in the 90s (luckily there were no crazy body mods done at the time) but soon got a whack with the lowering stick once Dan became the owner.

After a few years of owning the car and not really doing much with it Dan decided it was time to make it more ‘him’ and went about building a Type 1 beam conversion for the car. This changed the stance no end but resulting in the need for air suspension to be fitted. The car was sold not long after this.
